Lead Me

July 20, 2010

Over the past couple of months, I’ve written quite a bit about marriage. As I look back over previous posts, there is a glaring reality staring back at me. Simply put: It’s terribly easy to get married, but being married takes real work.

To this point, Michelle recently pointed out a song that has been gaining in popularity on Christian radio, called “Lead Me” by the band, Sanctus Real.

The song is an honest and challenging account of a man who goes about life chasing his dreams and doing everything to provide for his family’s physical needs, but inwardly, he’s starving them for love, affection and attention.

When Michelle played the song for me the first time, it hit me like a ton of bricks. My greatest fear in the world is that I would be like the man in the song, physically present but not giving real and unbridled love to my wife and children.

As I hear this song by Santus Real, it’s a powerful reminder to me that my wife and my children need me. They don’t just need my paycheck. They don’t just need my extra set of hands to cook and clean. They need me: to be loving, to laugh with them, to pray with them, to read to them, to hug them, to tickle them and to give everything I have to let them know they are loved deeply.

I hope you enjoy the song, and embrace the prayer at the end:

“So Father give me the strength to be everything I’m called to be. Oh, Father, show me the way to lead them. Won’t you lead me?”

Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up
what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.

I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any tips for inexperienced blog writers?
    I’d certainly appreciate it.
