29 Things I Will Do Before 30

March 17, 2011

I turned 29 this week or, as I like to say it, I began the victory lap of my twenties. It’s been a busy decade: Two degrees, one wife, three kids, five jobs, five homes and two churches. I could harp on the waning twilight hours of my days as a twenty-something, but that wouldn’t be much fun to read. So, in an effort to keep it light hearted this week, I offer 29 things that I will do before 30, in no particular order.

1. Climb a mountain (or, at least, a very tall hill)
2. Read a classic novel
3. Go to a concert and sing at the top of my lungs
4. Have a mini college reunion at Babe’s Fried Chicken in Burleson, TX
5. Sit in silent adoration of the body of Christ
6. Make my kids laugh uncontrollably
7. Ride a horse
8. Yoga
9. Sail
10. Get lost
11. Show Michelle she’s still my best friend
12. Run through the sprinklers
13. Start the This Pilgrim’s Progress Podcast
14. Engage in tiny acts of radical love
15. Dispel misconceptions
16. Ask tough questions
17. Have a priest over for dinner
18. Take Michelle dancing
19. Make a fool of myself (see #18)
20. Reminisce
21. Teach
22. Make bold steps towards the future
23. Give someone the benefit of the doubt
24. Take my parents out to dinner
25. Bring my family closer to Christ
26. Speak in front of a crowd of 500 or more
27. Write an eBook
28. Give each of the kids time of my full, undivided attention
29. Pray… early and often

I’m sure that the last year of my twenties will contain many more illustrious and not so illustrious achievements but hey, you’ve got to start somewhere, right?
